02 The visit

We place the unit
Each call is filed against one of our three Bench Notes series — the convection steam oven, the dual fuel range, or the drawers and smaller modules — so the check we bring is the one written for that unit.

We arrive
Our bench hours on the island run 8:00 am – 8:00 pm, seven days. Ring outside them and a person still answers, because the phone is staffed 24/7; the slot you are given sits in the next bench hours.

We measure
One flat $89 visit pays for the trip out and the whole diagnosis, and the $89 is deducted from the repair if you approve it. The unit is opened, and the part in question is read with a meter against the service data for that model before anything is named as the fault.

You get a number
One written figure for parts and labour, inside the published band where one exists, agreed with you before any part is ordered.

Once you approve the figure, the part is fitted, or ordered against the serial with the unit left safe until it arrives. Either way the cycle that failed is run again before we leave.

All three stand behind every visit on the island. They matter most where a 48-inch range has to come forward over a stone floor and go back into millwork that was cut around it.

Held for refrigerant handling. Nothing on a Wolf range or oven calls for it; it is listed because it is a credential the business actually holds, and this register lists only those.

Electric cooktop losing one element at random. Two other people had told me to replace the unit. He found a burnt connector at the terminal block and rebuilt it properly instead.

Island hood lights went out in a bank and the speed control stuck. Both sorted in one visit and the price matched the quote. My only note is that booking took a few days.

Convection fan spun but nothing ever browned. He found an open bake element and fitted a new one. Honest work; I only wish the arrival window had been a little narrower.
