Wolf Cooktop Repair

A gas top is read like the upper half of a range, from the cap and the spark inward. An electric or induction top is read from its supply and its controls, and any message on the display is written down exactly before a panel comes off.

Reported at the first call

• An induction element runs for a few minutes, shuts itself down and shows a fault code
• One sealed gas burner burns yellow and leaves soot on the underside of the pan
• The touch controls answer intermittently, or a whole row of them stops responding
• A burner will not hold a low simmer — turn it down and the flame goes out

What we measure first

   The figure on its rating plate

   If not

   A supply fault, written up for an electrician

2. We check

   Spark and flame at each gas burner

   We expect

   Spark on the burner, flame all round the head

   If not

   Cap seating and ports, then the electrode and module

3. We check

   The lowest simmer on each gas burner

   We expect

   A small flame that holds without going out

   If not

   Valve or orifice service, from the published band

4. We check

   Touch controls, key by key

   We expect

   Every key answers and the panel stays awake

   If not

   Control or touch panel, from the published band

A cooktop is worked on from above wherever the fault allows. When the work is underneath, the cabinet below is cleared first so that nothing is lifted out of the counter blind, and the gas shut-off and pipework stay a gas fitter’s work. You see the reading that names the part, and the written figure comes before the order.
